Santa Cycles an E-Cargo Bike

“Jingle bike bells, jingle bike bells, jingle all the way…”  Did you know Santa’s favourite mode of transport is actually an e-cargo bike??! Yes, it is the perfect way to transport all those presents although admittedly he sometimes has a problem getting up onto roofs.

Okay so maybe we made some of that up but we can tell you he certainly enjoyed cycling up and down on Kettering market place for the big Christmas light switch on recently. Nearly 90 children (and some adults) had fun rides in a decorated e-cargo bike pedalled by Santa.

Showing some good eco connections, Santa was also joined by his cousin ‘Green Santa’ who assisted too.

Cycle Culture for Christmas… and Anytime

We arranged for Santa to come and join others here in our Brightwayz team as we wanted to be part of this big local, fun event. Also we love getting out and showing the public different aspects of cycling, giving fun experiences that even non-cyclists can enjoy and showing how anyone can enjoy it.

Darker Evenings
As the clocks went back at the end of October and the nights are drawing in even more, we combined our Santa event with getting the ‘be bright be seen’ message out. All children who took part in the rides received a free ‘get down to town Kettering’ reflector or a star shaped reflector (great for them to also hand on their own Christmas tree!).  We also handed out some of our fun ‘be bright’ activity books for children to take home and enjoy.

This event was one of many we are running this year and next as part of our ‘Out and About Active Travel North Northants’ programme which is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. A local developer, Hanwood Park, also supported this with the loan of the e-cargo bike.
