Stride & Ride CIC

Kettering voices for safer travel choices

Stride and Ride CIC is a newly formed group to champion cycling, walking and wheeling in the Kettering area.

We are made up of everyday people who want to be able to get around easily without needing to use a car, and we know that by giving everyone more choice in how they travel means a safer, cleaner, greener and better Kettering for all of us.

Cycling

We saw during the pandemic that if people feel safe on our roads then they cycle more. When they don't feel safe they either just stop cycling, jump back in the car or cycle on the pavement. With electric and cargo bikes becoming ever more popular, we want to see properly secure cycle storage in Kettering. People just aren't confident leaving their bicycle in the town centre. We want a permanent active travel hub to be established.

Kettering has a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) which means North Northamptonshire Council can get funding from the Government to build protected cycle lanes.

We can't wait to see the plans come forward and will be engaging to make sure they are the best they can be.

Walking and Wheeling

Wheeling is a term you may not have heard before, but we mean mobility scooters and power chairs.

We know that navigating our streets can be difficult at best for those who rely on footpaths to get around, with issues of pavement parking, bins blocking footpaths and a lack of (or often blocked) drop kerbs. These issues need addressing and we want to advocate for those affected.

What's the link to Brightwayz?

How are we going to achieve our aims?

We want interested residents to have their views heard. Change that happens *with* a community is more readily accepted than change that happens *to* a community. We aim to be the voice for people who care about the future of the Kettering area and how greener and more sustainable travel will make the area more liveable.
