Summertime Town Centre Cycle Events

School’s out for summer - but our cycle activities are keeping local children busy and active. As part of our Get Down to Town Kettering initiative to bring vibrancy to our local town centre through active travel we have been running a range of events.

‘Learn to Ride’ Tips
So many parents struggle to teach their children to ride a bike (often because they’ve got too used to stabilisers - not recommended by the way). So we are offering free advice sessions with our professional cycle trainer to give parents tips and help their child get going in two wheels. As this is a free ‘just turn up’ session in the market place it’s easy for families to use this opportunity. Even if they don’t have a bike with them they can have this help as we have bikes they can try to ride. 

We’re pleased that this activity is also prompting adult beginners to ask about our learn to ride cycle lessons and some of them are having a go too.
 

‘Balance Bikes’
Some of our sessions are just for tots on our balance bikes in a safe penned off space. It’s such a thrill when a parent says ‘this is their first ever time in a bike’ and you see the child’s happy face. 
 

‘Get Up and Go! The Active Travel Show’
It’s not just us bringing active travel to the summer fun sessions in our local market place. Local theatre company Laugh Out Loud Theatre (LOL) are performing on five days a fun production for children about the great benefits of travelling to school in active ways. We worked with LOL to help crests the show which has brought lots of smiles to faces.
