Art on The Route Point Twelve and Week Two Challenge

Welcome to Week Two of our 12 Week Active Travel Challenge in Kettering. This week take a stroll or ride along to the final point in our route - The Park and Stride sign on Weekley Glebe Road which is Point 12 on our Art on the Route map (what3words location https://w3w.co/pink/legal.script )

But first, here’s a reminder of what the 12 week challenge is:

Art on the Route 12 Week Challenge - 

• Each week head off walking, wheeling, scooting or cycling to the week’s featured Point on the route.
• Take a pic and share your comments about how you got there. 
• Post on our Art on the Route instagram or facebook page and tag @artontheroute.
• Each week we’ll randomly pick one from the previous week to win an Art on the Route Creative Pack (pavement chalk, bike bell, reflective sticker and other goodies).

Our trail takes you past some amazing local street art to bring a smile to your face and joy to your day. It also highlights some of the details around us - that you may not have noticed - that make our walk, wheel, cycle or scoot journeys safer and easier. 

We’ve given some snippets of info whilst you are on the route on the Huntly app or map. But here in this series of posts we’ll delve a bit deeper for inquisitive minds… for the story behind each Point.

The Story Behind the Park and Stride sign at Weekley Glebe Road

The sign you see here was inspired by designs from two competition winners at nearby Kettering Buccleuch Academy back in 2021. Local artist Katy Bronson adapted their ideas to design this sign. You can find out more here

Creative Post Stop

At this spot you'll find one of five wooden ‘Creative Posts’ ? If you have a crayon and one of our maps or a piece of paper you can do a rubbing to create a walking character design. 

There’s even more to do here. A QR code on the front will take you to a very quick and entertaining video clip about why walking is so great from our friends at Laugh Out Loud Theatre. 

Carbon Heroes

By making it easier for pupils who live a long way off to walk at least some of the way to school every day, the need for car journeys is reduced. As transport is the largest source of carbon emissions and the journey to school is done almost every day. Changing to a walk to school habit can have a great impact on carbon reduction. 

So now head of on an active travel trip and take a pic at our Stride and Ride sign. Post on social media www.faceboook.com/artontheroute or www.instagram.com/artontheroute and tag us (by Sat 25 July) for a chance to win this weeks prize.
