Hayfield Cross Pavement Sticker - Dez and Staff.

Let me take you by the hand and lead you to the Streets of London… where you can see some of our wonderful pavement stickers in action!

We always love to hear how our customers are getting on with using our products and Fiona from PWLC who supports school travel initiatives in London sent us this review of how they are using the custom printed pavement stickers we recently supplied them with:

“On a very warm Wednesday, I travelled to lovely Ealing to supervise the installation of new pavement stickers promoting active travel for Brentside Primary, as part of their School Superzone project.

“I was met by three contractors from Murrill, who support the council with facilities management across the borough. With heat gun warmed up, they were ready to try the first “tester” sticker on Cuckoo Avenue.

“A little fiddling with the heat settings and it seemed 240 degrees was the magic number and the rest of the stickers were applied quickly and efficiently by the workers. It was a welcome break for them from their usual work and they were a little sorry the whole thing took less than an hour!

The stickers look brilliant and lead children and their parents from the park and stride point to the school gates.”
Thank you Fiona!

Just 5, 10 or  20 Minutes to Walk to school

Coincidentally on the same hot day our Brightwayz team were out and about installing pavement stickers for Hayfield Cross School in Kettering -  a local school we are supporting on their Modeshift STARS school travel plan.

The pavement stickers used for this project included the school name (big) and the sponsor’s logo (smaller) which highlights the partnership but also makes it clear that the school is the destination. We provided a range of ‘time distances’ to put at various points in the neighbourhood on the main walking routes - 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins and so on.

Having pavement stickers installed in such a public place helps remind people this is not just a bit of tarmac but is in a community with a school, people walking there every day… and that walking could take less time than you would otherwise think… so why not try it?!

Promoting Walk to School Pavement Stickers

Of course those who drive to school regularly are less likely to see the stickers… and they are in fact the ones you want to reach in terms of influencing them to change their travel habits. So promoting the overall scheme is important too. Hayfield Cross Primary School did a ‘have you seen the new pavement stickers?’ post on their school facebook page which is seen by many parents. A local press release can also raise interest in the wider community and create a positive view that something small is being done (hopefully alongside other actions!)  to address the school run traffic issue.

Do We Need Permission to Put Pavement Stickers Down?

This is often the first question we are asked about our pavement stickers and the answer is ‘yes’. These need to be put down with consent from the landowner which in the case of public pavements is usually the local Highways authority (aka your local council). However as most of our customers purchasing these stickers actually are the Highways authority this is not a big issue.

Sometimes the pavements may be ‘unadopted by Highways’ which means they are still under the management of the local developer. In the case of the stickers we put down locally recently, the developer requested and paid for the pavement stickers.

When we supply these stickers we also provide work method information and a template risk assessment so those applying them have the info they need.

More About Our Pavement Stickers

Our pavement stickers are made from very durable, weatherproof material and have a special anti-slip coating. They are applied with a heat gun and the smoother the pavement, the better they stick and the longer they last. For further information please see our product info. If you are from a local authority, are considering purchasing these and would like a free sample please get in touch.

These pavement stickers can have many uses in terms of promoting active travel. We have also used them as part of our ‘Get Down to Town’ town centre travel plan to highlight how little time it takes to walk into the town centre. Where would you put yours?
