No Vr Vr Vroom With an Electric Van for Our Green Travel Events

There’s no ‘vr-vr-vroom’ when we get going here at Brightwayz with our new electric van for our green travel events. Getting out and about across the North Northants where we do all our projects was a bit of a challenge, especially when taking equipment such as our adapted bikes and smoothie bike to events. But our new electric van has made us quieter, greener, cleaner and better connected in our journeys
As an added bonus, thanks to our office solar panels, our electric van is actually ‘powered by sunshine’. The energy generated over the weekend goes into our e-van’s battery to provide free fuel for us to get from A to B.

We love to bring a bit of brightness into people’s lives so we have also made sure our e-van gets some design sparkle. Our friends at Kensigns in Kettering have given our e-van a fab coat of many colours which helps us to promote our active travel in the community activities. This includes promoting our ‘Cycle-Re-Cycle’ project to collect and refurbish secondhand bikes to either use in our projects or sell on to raise funds for our projects.
Although we’ve had our van for just a few weeks we have already been out and about a lot. This includes some half-term cycle fun activities at Stanwick Lakes near Rushden for a partnership event with North Northants Council community safety team, the police and fire service.
Our trainer Trudi was there offering free ‘ditch the stabilisers’ cycle training for families whilst our mechanic Wesley provided free cycle safety checks and basic fixes with Dez our third team member for the day organising the active travel info stand.

Our new van was part-funded by the government’s Rural Shared Prosperity Fund via North Northants Council as well as by ‘Thrive’ funding from Social Impact Business (assisted by Cooperative and Community Finance). Thank you very much to both funders!
If you are looking for funding for your own not-for-profit active or green travel initiative take a look at our recent ‘funding fair’ blog as there are lots of tips for you wherever you are based in the UK.
This funding has really helped us expand our local service offering so look out for us out and about doing more exciting active travel related projects.
